The Burmese brown-roofed turtle is endemic to South Asia, which means it is found nowhere else in the world. They inhabit freshwater swamps and rivers and like to bask in the sun. This species is on the decline due to threats such as harvesting aquatic resources, recreational activities, dams, water management, and pollution.
