The leopard tortoise, another very beautifully marked species, is found in the savannas of Africa, from Sudan to the southern Cape. They tend to inhabit semiarid grassland or thorny habitats. This species will only dig to make a nest, so in the extreme heat or cold, they will find shelter in abandoned holes of a fox, jackal, or even aardvarks. Being Herbivorous, they feed on forbs, thistles, grasses, and succulents. This is also the fourth-largest species of tortoise in the world.
