Burmese Brown Mountain Tortoise (M. emys emys)

The Burmese brown mountain tortoise occurs in southern Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. They inhabit temperate, moist habitats such as highland tropical forests. They need very humid environments and rarely stray far from a source of water. Unlike most tortoises, Burmese brown mountain tortoises will build a nest out of leaves and ground debris. There she will deposit her clutch of eggs. The female will also guard her eggs and attack any predators that come close. These tortoises are also more vocal than most other tortoises. They are herbivorous for the most part and feed on grasses, vegetables, leaves, and fruit.
