The Indonesian snake neck inhabits shallow pools in marshy areas. In dry months they may aestivate (prolonged dormancy) in the mud. They are primarily vegetarian but prey on mollusks, crayfish and insects. Like its name suggests, the Indonesian snake neck has a long neck and a broad head with an upturned and protruding snout.
