The military macaw gets its name from its bright green plumage that resembles a military parade uniform. They inhabit tropical deciduous and semi-deciduous forests and feed, breed, and nest in the canopy. Though they are not migratory they will seasonally fly down to the lowlands in search of food and breeding sites. They live in flocks of 50-60 and are very loud. These macaws feed on fruit, leaves, and seeds. They are monogamous and seasonal breeders as well as being gregarious, very social birds.
